This week, I completed the first of 4 pieces for my fall/winter wardrobe project.

Note this is one more completed piece for this project than I have completed for similar projects in the past. This is a piece I made as part of my online sewing class — the Naughty Secretary Skirt from Diana Rupp’s Sew Everything Workshop. It’s a simple pattern — there are only 2 pieces — so fitting is not a difficult task. Putting in an invisible zipper, however … I botched the zipper on my muslin and no amount of online coaching from Diana Rupp herself could fix it.
But I managed to get it right in the finished version. Witness my joy at the lack of puckering on the back seam where seam & zipper meet.

And I think this is a great beginner piece — the sizing and instructions are simpler to follow than a lot of other commercial patterns, and the zipper is the most advanced skill needed.
I made this one from the denim I picked up from Textile Discount Outlet a couple months ago — it’s fairly lightweight but heavy enough for fall. It’s definitely going to see wear from fall through spring, and we’ll see if it’s breathable enough for summer wear next year (doubtful). Either way, the pattern is simple enough that I will probably make several more in different fabrics, and try my hand at lining one.

But this one is comfortable, versatile & great for everyday and work wear (hence the name). I feel great in this skirt. And it matches my favorite look: Blue Steel.

(Arrrrlene is not impressed)

Great skirt!
Thanks!
That is super cute!
Thank you!
Nice skirt! It looks like it’ll be very versatile.
Also, thanks for the encouraging words on my last post. It’s been a very frustrating last couple of days with that sweater.
Believe me, I’ve been there. You seem to have good stick-to-it-iveness — once you get over this hump, you’ll be golden.
And thank you!
